Newark, DE Wedding: Leanne and Keith
Leanne is one of the sweetest brides I've had the honor of helping to find her dream dress. All smiles and full of joy, I knew that her wedding day would be the same. Elizabeth Dye's For Emily dress perfectly embodied that spirit, and there was no question that this was it. She and Keith had a simply gorgeous wedding at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Delaware last August.

WHEN YOU TRIED ON YOUR DRESS, HOW DID YOU KNOW IT WAS THE ONE?
I ended up buying the first dress I tried on at Glitter & Grit, but it took me a while to actually decide it was the one for me. I had seen the gown online and loved it before I had found Glitter & Grit, so when I went for my appointment it was the first thing I wanted to see. I ended up pulling at least ten other dresses to try on too, and after trying everything on once, Erin suggested I put the For Emily gown back on. When I came out to show my mom the dress for the second time, she immediately said “That’s the one you’re getting, right?” And she was! It was, quite literally, exactly what I came for, and after seeing everything else, I knew it was what I wanted to wear.
WHAT WAS YOUR GROOM'S REACTION TO SEEING YOU IN IT?
I told myself I wouldn’t let my husband see the dress, let alone me in it, until the wedding, but that conviction lasted about 3 hours. I was too excited and ended up showing him a picture from my appointment that night, and he loved the dress and how happy I looked in it. For the wedding, we did a first look before our ceremony - mostly to help us calm our nerves since we are both anxious people! Keith was a little more nervous than I was about being up in front of 150 people, but I think when he saw me, he realized it was all worth it and couldn’t wait for the day to really start.
Please tell us your favorite thing about Keith...
Keith is thoughtful, caring, and all the other great things that make you fall in love with another person, but I think my favorite thing about him is that never takes himself too seriously. He’s not afraid to be silly or to let his nerdy personality shine through, and so our five years together have been full of goofy jokes that make me laugh until I cry.
Did you incorporate any traditions into your wedding?
We had our DJ play both of our parents’ first dance songs from their weddings as a way to celebrate and thank them. We also had a local creamery that we both love bring in ice cream for dessert, which was a big hit!
Please describe the most memorable moment of the day.
There were times during our wedding when everything felt very scheduled, which was probably for the best as there was a lot to do, but about half way through the reception, there was a point where we realized that we were basically off the hook. The cake was cut, the bouquet was thrown, and we had done the rounds and said hello to all our guests. As wonderful as the whole day was leading up to this moment, there was something so great about heading over to the dance floor to just relax and celebrate with all of our favorite people.
Do you have any advice for future brides?
Remember to focus on what matters. So many things went wrong during our wedding: the cake was completely the wrong color, my veil blew into Keith’s face for the whole ceremony, and Keith missed the majority of our last dance because he was in the bathroom. Things are going to go wrong though, and you just have to laugh it off and remember to have fun with your family, friends, and the person you love!
